RapidRep Designer
The RapidRep Designer is the central module of RapidRep. Using this Java application all properties are specified, determining the content and layout of the final test case reports.
The statements made in the RapidRep Designer, create a so-called reportdefinition, consisting the following properties:
RapidRep Runner
The RapidRep Test Runner is a stand-alone application for executing test cases. It is installed at the working station of the tester.
The simple and intuitive interface allows the users to find their way quickly. Test cases can be selected and evaluated individually or in groups . Knowledge in SQL and the underlying test management system are not necessary.
In the RapidRep Runner reports are created that are based on report definitions that have been designed with the RapidRep Designer.
The workflow basically consists of three steps:
RapidRep Report Runner
With the help of the RapidRep Report Runner, it is possible to render reports into Excel workbooks. The autonomous application is designed for the end user and is installed on a workstation.
The user interface is very intuitively. Based on the designed and released versions of single reportdefinitions, reports are created, specified (e.g. key date), and rendered into MS Excel.
Creating reports can be performed via batch processing. All essential functions of the RapidRep Report Runner are also available via the RapidRep Reporting CLI
RapidRep Testing CLI
All functions that can be selected within the RapidRep Test Runner (see above) via actions of the user interface, for instance a specific test, are available via a batch file that can be called by the RapidRep Testing CLI without any manual action necessary.
Thus, an automated batch processing is made possible. The commands can be calculated via an asynchronous call of the RapidRep Testing CLI within a Cloud (see below).
RapidRep Reporting CLI
All function that can be performed in the RapidRep Report Runner (see above) to create a report, are also available via a batch file that can be called by the RapidRep Reporting CLI.
Due to the batch processing, large numbers of reports can be calculated and rendered into Excel workbooks without any manual actions necessary. Optionally, the commands can be calculated via an asynchronous call of the RapidRep Reporting CLI within a Cloud (see below).
RapidRep Server
RapidRep tasks, such as the calculation and rendering of a workbook or automated testing, can be performed on any workstation within a defined Cloud if configured accordingly.
Depending on the features of the resources defined for a cloud, computing capacities can be used parallel. The malfunction of one workstation can be easily compensated by other machine without any loss of data.
RapidRep Cloud Monitor
The Cloud Monitor provides the administrator an extensive overview of the current calculation processes. A tree hierarchy displays the current mappings and workloads of the RapidRep Repositories, Clouds and the RapidRep Server. Single requests can be re-prioritized and it possible to launch, stop, and shutdown severs with a single mouse-click.
RapidRep 3rd Party Test Connectors
The connection between RapidRep and a Defect Managements or Test Management System is established via a system specific Connector.
RapidRep supports the following defect management or test management systems:- HP Quality Center 9.0, 9.2, 10.0
- IBM Rational Quality Manager 1.0, 1.1, 2.0
- Atlassian JIRA ab 3.13.0 bis 4.1
- Mantis Bug Tracker ab 1.1.1.0 bis 1.2.1
RapidRep Repository
The RapidRep Repository is the location within a relational database, where RapidRep is storing the following objects
- All versions of report definitions
- Reports and their initialization parameters and calculation results (XML and Excel workbooks)
- Configuration and snapshots needed for regression testing
During the start-up, all RapidRep applications have to connect with exactly one repository.
RapidRep Repository Manager
RapidRep provides a stand-alone application used by one or several administrators.
The application is used for the following tasks:
- Specification of the authentication method
- Registration of RapidRep users
- Assignment of roles for working with the RapidRep applications
- Schema administration after software upgrades
- Overview of all connections to the RapidRep repository
The user interface is simple and intuitive in its usage. The RapidRep Repository Manager is is installed optionally during the installation of RapidRep at the workstation.
Microsoft Excel
RapidRep uses the full flexibility of Microsoft Excel in order to visualize both test case layout and test case results.
Excel workbooks are used by RapidRep for the following purposes:- Every report definition has to reference an Excel workbook. This workbook serves as template and defines the test case layout. Full flexibility of Excel is maintained and customers may design their templates individually.
- The result of the test case execution (triggered either within RapidRep Runner or alternatively via RapidRep Batch API) is a workbook based on the template stored in the underlying Reportdefinition. The workbook is saved in the RapidRep repository.
- The logic applied to analyze the test case results can make use of Excel formulas and VBA code, stored in the Excel workbook template.
- If an external test management system is used then the resulting Excel Workbook is transferred as attachment to the external system.
The populated Excel workbook contains all information (independent of RapidRep) that are needed by the specialist department in order to discuss testing results and all details for business analysts in order to identify and process errors.
